Produced in Portalegre to the north east of the Alentejo on the granite foothills of the São Mamede mountains. The combination of cool, high altitude grapes and granite soils combine to give wines of great finesse with structure, intense aromas and freshness.
"Deep purplish crimson – looks younger than its years. The oak has settled down to reveal pure, dark fruit, savoury and peppery not sweet-smelling and just a touch of the variety's floral character. Dark and rocky like the soils it comes from. Definite tannins are
smoothed enough to enjoy now but should still offer quite a few more years in bottle. Very good harmony and the lack of obvious fruit sweetness enhances the moderate acidity. Generous, rich, deep in fruit on the palate, a bit of heat at the back of the throat at room temperature but this disappears if you drink this a bit cooler. Oak is present but fully integrated. Long finish." Julia Harding for Jancis Robinson 16.5+ points.
